Kevin Small is a twenty-seven (27) year old Barbadian Fashion and Costume Designer who believes in aiming for excellence in everything that he does. He has been designing for the past ten (10) years. His zest for design was recognized at an early age, and harnessed and perfected and he is now seen as one of the best in his homeland despite his age.
He has completed a number of local courses in order to formalize what has been described by some as natural artistic talent and superb creativity. His ingenuity and creativity has led him to create several award winning pieces and a repeated and satisfied customer base. Kevin has continued to master his artistic career as a well-rounded designer as he does not believe in resting on his laurels. He always aims to improve on his last creation each time around.
Kevin Small’s repertoire is wide and varied. He has been awarded numerous silver and bronze medals in the National Independence Festival for Creative Arts (NIFCA). He is also Bandleader and Designer of his own Masquerade Band branded the Fifth Element Band. This band, still very much in its youth has been awarded over thirty (30) prizes over the past four (4) years. These include but are not limited to: Best Junior Band for 2014 and second (2nd) place Junior Band for 2015. In 2012 and 2015 he was award the third (3rd) place Festival Designer of the Year Award. He has been awarded these and other prizes and accolades from amongst a field of the more seasoned and veteran designers.
He currently operates under the design label “I am NYVeK” where he is the sole owner and designer. Added to his long list of achievements is the outfitting of the Miss Barbados World Delegate in National Costume for the 2012 Miss World Show in London. He has also designed and produced costumes for the Barbados National Dance Team for the 2014 and 2015 Competitions in Black Pool England.
He has designed formal wear for various Beauty Pageants for clients locally, regionally and internationally. These include the Miss Holetown Queen of the Festival Pageant, the Spirit of the Nation Show as well as the Miss World Pageant. Kevin Small can also boast of designing several winning pieces for several local School Pageants across the island.
Kevin holds an Associate Degree from the Barbados Community College and he recently completed a certificate in the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) in Fashion Designing Level II as well as a certificate in fashion design from the Caribbean Market Centre. This was all done with a very hectic schedule.
In 2016 he launched his Spring Summer “16 Collection at the Bridgetown Barbados fashion week which has earned him several reviews and notable mentions be many stalwarts in the fashion and design industry.
Whether designing for an individual, a group or a corporate entity Kevin believes in offering a premium product to his clients and he works above and beyond to create that product that will leave a lasting impression on those who not only wear but see it. Kevin continues to make a meteoric rise in his homeland but has his eyes set on making his name known beyond his homeland. Kevin has made excellence, uniqueness, ingenuity and creativity benchmarks of his work no matter the size of the project. Kevin though small by name continues to dream big and bring happiness to all persons for whom he has worked.
